About Taipei

Taipei is one of Asia's most likeable cities, a place that pairs futuristic skyscrapers and a famously efficient metro with steaming bowls of beef noodle soup, incense-wreathed temples and some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. The skyline is led by Taipei 101, once the tallest building in the world, but the real soul of the city is found at street level, in its incredible food culture and its easy, unpretentious charm. This is a city made for grazing and exploring. Dive into the sensory overload of the Shilin and Raohe night markets, queue for the world's best soup dumplings, and sip oolong tea in the hills of Maokong. Treasures of Chinese art fill the National Palace Museum, history echoes at the grand Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, and within an hour you can be soaking in the hot springs of Beitou, wandering the lantern-lit lanes of Jiufen or hiking lush green peaks like Elephant Mountain for the classic city-and-101 view. Autumn and spring bring the most pleasant weather, while summers are hot, humid and prone to typhoons. Tap an EasyCard, follow the crowds to the food, and let Taipei's warmth and flavour win you over.
