About Marrakech

Marrakech is a feast for the senses and one of the great travel cities of the world. Behind its rose-red ramparts lies a medieval medina of labyrinthine souks, hidden palaces and tranquil riads, where the call to prayer drifts over rooftops, mopeds weave through spice-scented lanes, and the great square of Jemaa el-Fnaa erupts each evening into a carnival of food stalls, musicians and storytellers. The city rewards both adventure and indulgence. Bargain for lanterns and leather in the souks, lose an afternoon in the cool courtyards of the Bahia Palace and the Majorelle Garden, then retreat to a riad's rooftop for mint tea above the chaos. Beyond the medina, the modern Gueliz district offers chic cafes and boutiques, while the snow-dusted High Atlas and the palm-fringed Ourika Valley are an easy day trip away. Spring and autumn bring the most comfortable weather; summer is fierce and hot, winter mild by day and cool at night. Come ready to haggle with a smile, dress modestly, and surrender to the glorious sensory overload.
