About Jaipur

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is the dazzling gateway to royal India. Founded in 1727 and painted a warm terracotta pink to welcome a visiting prince, its walled old city is a feast for the senses - a grid of bustling bazaars, ornate gateways and the famous honeycomb facade of the Hawa Mahal, the Palace of the Winds. Above it all, magnificent forts crown the surrounding hills, and inside the City Palace the descendants of the maharajas still reside. This is a city built for wandering and wonder. Ride up to the magnificent Amber Fort, lose yourself among the astronomical instruments of the Jantar Mantar, and dive into bazaars piled with jewels, textiles, blue pottery and spices. It can be intense - loud, hot and chaotic, with touts and traffic - but it is also endlessly photogenic, deeply hospitable and one of the easiest introductions to India, forming the western point of the classic Golden Triangle with Delhi and Agra. October to March brings the pleasant, cooler weather ideal for sightseeing; the summer months are fiercely hot. Dress modestly, bargain with a smile, eat the legendary Rajasthani thalis, and let the Pink City sweep you into the romance of royal India.
